PG Diploma in
Audiology:
Placements
The first part of the Postgraduate Diploma is a 9 month taught programme that mirrors the MSc in Audiology, minus the research project. During the second part of the course, students undertake a clinical placement arranged by The University.
During Year 1
(Postgraduate Diploma):
As well as undertaking Clinical Practicum and
lectures at the University, students visit local NHS centres
on half-day placements to observe appointments and interact with patients.
We also offer an in-house clinic
where students, supervised by University staff,
see Adult Rehab, Paediatric and Audio Vestibular patients.
During Year 2 (Clinical Placement Year):
Students spend
11 months on paid
clinical placements,
at two Audiology centres,
allowing
them
to put their
academic and clinical skills into practice,
under professional supervision.
Students will
experience a variety of clinics such as Paediatrics, Vestibular Rehabilitation and Adult Rehabilitation and
their
progress will be recorded in an online
Logbook, which will form part of their Professional Development Portfolio. A
member of University
Staff will also visit students for monitoring,
academic guidance and independent assessment.
Our current placement centres are spread as far and wide as
Canterbury, Milton
Keynes and Bournemouth, and the
placements are
arranged
for students by the
University.
Before
students go on placement, we will give them guidance on what to expect in
the placement
centre, their role during the placement year, accommodation
and salaries.
Successful completion of both Postgraduate
Diploma and
clinical placement will enable students to
register as an Audiologist in the NHS.
