Hugh Dumbrell is the Wake Physics Technical Leader in Sea Systems Mine Warfare, Weapons & Countermeasures at QinetiQ Bincleaves. He is a visiting Research Fellow at ISVR, and visits ISVR monthly to collaborate with Professor Leighton on the research project into the enhancement of sonar detection in bubbly water.

Following his MA Hons (Class 2.1) in Engineering Science at the University of Oxford in 1986, he worked for the Earth Remote Sensing (ERS) satellite ground support station, and then at EDS-Scicon, working on torpedo technology. He moved to QinetiQ Bincleaves in 1994, and is currently engaged in wake physics work, which involves organising trials, taking measurements and analysing data to develop and validate a computer model (SWARM). This work involves considerable collaboration with the USA & Canada.
