The two closely spaced loudspeakers produce the same sound pressures at the ears of the listener as would have been produced by a virtual image at 45 degrees to the left of the listener relative to straight front. Note that the resulting sound field is very simple even though the virtual image is well outside the angle spanned by the loudspeakers
