Individual Record of Clinical Practice
What does IRCP stand for?
IRCP stands for
Individual Record of Clinical Practice.
What is the web address
for the IRCP?
http://www.isvr.soton.ac.uk/audlogbook/welcome.asp
Use
your Student ID number to log in.
Can I write comments in my IRCP? Who has access to it?
No. The IRCP is
intended for your Supervisors to write comments in and for you to track your
progress. Only the
members of staff at your two placement centres and staff from the
University will have access to your IRCP; no student can see
another students' IRCP.
What do the
letters in the IRCP stand for?
O stands for Observation (you observing a clinician performing the
task), P stands for Partially fulfils definition (still working
towards being competent) and FD stands for Fulfils Definition (you
meet all the criteria set down for that task).
What happens if I don’t have access to all types of treatment?
We have staggered your placements over different centres that will mean you
will ideally cover all areas of treatment in the whole year. If it becomes
apparent that this will not happen (changes in department, staff absence),
please contact Jane.
Do I still have to keep a Professional Development Portfolio as well as the
IRCP?
Yes your diary/observations and projects completed during the placement year
will contribute to your PDP.
How am I assessed and who by?
Your assessment will be ongoing, as your supervisors will be completing the
IRCP and recording your progress on a daily basis. You will also receive
2 assessment visits from University Staff, who will observe you in action and complete
some sections of your IRCP on their visits, see above.
What other type
of work do I have to complete?
You must complete 3 individual
projects. They
could perhaps take the
form of an essay (max 2500 words) or report about a particular subject or
could be in the form of an oral presentation to members of staff.
Alternatively it could be a departmental procedure or a small research
project or an audit.
What happens if I do not complete all sections of the IRCP?
In the first instance, discuss your progress with your supervisor, who will
then be able to flag up any likely gaps in the logbook with the University.
The University assessors will also check your logbook progress before and
after assessment visits. Further action/ discussion will then be taken by
the University / Placement centre.
How do I pass or fail the Year?
Please see
Assessment Guidelines. The consequence of this is that the student may not be eligible for
registration with RCCP at the end of their studies and may not be
able to be employed in the NHS.
Can I resit my
Placement Year?
There is no facility to resit your placement year. Please contact
Jane
in good time, if you have any concerns.
